“The eye eats as well as the mouth,” says an old German proverb. Does the color of food affect the senses? Maybe not for the pet, but it’s more likely to for the pet owner. For decades, food manufacturers have looked for ways to make their products more appealing to the senses. Through this research they have determined that color has considerable effect on human perception of food taste.
Of course, as pets are becoming more vital members of the family, a large percentage of the pet owning consumer base desire to mimic their human menu preferences for their pets, such as with foods that appeal more toward the human senses and comfort.
